CEDAR ART STUDIOS BARREL IS COMING...
As a collective, Cedar Art Studios is participating in the Boulder Barrel Project in support of new legislation that goes into effect on August 10th, which finally makes rain barrels legal in Colorado.
To help educate the public about the proper use of rain barrels and celebrate the passage of the legislation, the City of Boulder Water Conservation Program is planning a kick-off event. The Boulder Barrel Project will work with local artists and businesses to design and showcase professionally painted rain barrels from August 10 through September 10, culminating with a barrel auction on September 15.
Our barrel design has three sections representing each studio artists interpretation of water. My section is a quilt cosy made out of up-cycled reusable grocery bags. The bags are cut and sewn into a wavy Bargello quilt pattern with square images which reflect the nature of water in Colorado.
The project and event is being managed through a partnership with Open Studios, with additional support from the Center for ReSource Conservation and Boulder Housing Partners. Collectively, these non-profits support arts, water conservation and low-income housing in the Boulder community. Proceeds will go back to these local non-profits and artists.
